Affectionately known as “Superman” for his bravery and ability to pull off stunning saves, Hassan is regarded as one of Singapore’s best-ever shot-stoppers. Among his many career achievements include being the first goalkeeper to win the S.League Player of the Year award in 2014 following his title-winning exploits with Warriors FC, as well as being named among the top-20 goalkeepers in the world by UK-based publication The Telegraph in 2016. With a combined four seasons abroad at Thailand’s Army United, along with his vast experience in the local and international football scene, Hassan is undoubtedly one of the Sailors’ most senior and important players in the team.

02

Zulqarnaen Suzliman

DEFENDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 29 March 1998 (22)
Previous Clubs: Young Lions (2016-2019)

Blessed with great stamina and blistering pace, Zulqarnaen is best described as a modern full-back. Initially starting out as a winger for the Young Lions, Zulqarnaen – whose nickname is “Mamat” – found his true calling on the pitch after being converted into a defender in 2018.His improved performances led to him being called up for his international debut later that year, and he has since made the right-back position in the Singapore national team his own. Despite his relative youth, “Mamat”, who signed for the Sailors in 2020, is already regarded as one of the key players at the club.

05

Kaishu Yamazaki

DEFENDERS

Nationality: Japanese
DOB/Age: 12 July 1997 (23)
Previous Clubs: Iwaki FC (2016-2017), Albirex Niigata (S) (2018-2019)

A classy ball-playing defender who also has the ability to play in midfield, Yamazaki is the central figure of the Sailors’ backline. Part of Albirex Niigata’s (S) all-conquering side which swept all three pieces of domestic silverware in 2018, Yamazaki impressed in a midfield role for the White Swans a year later, and earned himself a nomination for the SPL Young Player of the Year award. The young Japanese joined the Sailors in 2020, and will be surely hoping to enjoy even more success on the pitch in Singapore with his new club.

06

Abdil Qaiyyim

DEFENDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 14 May 1989 (31)
Previous Clubs: Young Lions (2007-2010), Home United (2011, 2015-2019), LionsXII (2012), Warriors FC (2013), Tampines Rovers (2014)

A no-nonsense player who never shirks a challenge, it comes as no surprise that Abdil counts Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos as one of his favourite players. Recognised as one of the best local centre-backs in the SPL, Abdil has seen his reputation soar in recent years, especially after his impressive performances for Home United helped them reach the 2017 and 2018 AFC Cup Zonal finals. Abdil’s defensive ability and leadership on the pitch will be crucial in the Sailors’ quest for success, and he is often one of the first names on the coach’s team sheet.

14

Gabriel Quak

MIDFIELDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 22 December 1990 (30)
Previous Clubs: Young Lions (2008-2011), LionsXII (2012-2015), Geylang International (2016-2017), Navy FC (2018), Warriors FC (2019)

A fleet-footed winger with excellent dribbling skills, Gabriel’s knack of cutting in from the right to score with his left foot makes him one of the most dangerous attackers in the SPL. A recognisable face in the local football scene, and a regular in the Singapore national team, Gabriel was a key part of the LionsXII squads that won the Malaysia Super League and Malaysia FA Cup in 2013 and 2015 respectively. With more than a decade of experience in professional football under his belt, Gabriel is the ideal role model for the younger Sailors attackers, both on and off the pitch.

19

Naqiuddin Eunos

DEFENDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 12 January 1997 (23)
Previous Clubs: Young Lions (2018-2019)

An energetic player and a good crosser of the ball, Naqiuddin was started out as a winger, but has since been converted to a full-back for the Sailors. Having made his professional bow in 2018, Naqiuddin has since improved leaps and bounds, and featured in 18 SPL games for his previous club, the Young Lions, in the 2019 season, where he caught the eye with his lively and tenacious displays. That earned him the move to the Sailors in 2020, where he will look to improve even more as he continues his rise to the top.

08

Shahdan Sulaiman

MIDFIELDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 9 May 1988 (32)
Previous Clubs: Tampines Rovers (2006-2008, 2010-2011, 2013-2014, 2016-2017, 2019), Home United (2009-2010), Young Lions (2011), LionsXII (2012, 2015), Melaka United (2018)

A set-piece specialist who is capable of delivering dead balls with pinpoint accuracy, the experienced Shahdan is undoubtedly one of the most technically-gifted midfielders in Singapore in the last decade.
Signing for the Sailors after a standout 2019 season with Tampines Rovers, where he won the Singapore Cup and earned himself a nomination for the SPL Player of the Year award. A well-respected member of the squad who is valued for his creativity and passing ability, Shahdan’s presence in the squad will surely help to push the Sailors to greater heights.

20

Arshad Shamim

MIDFIELDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 9 December 1999 (21)
Previous Clubs: Home United (2017-2019)

A winger with great stamina and explosive acceleration, Arshad is a bright young talent to keep an eye out for. The unheralded youngster burst onto the scene in 2018 with a mature debut performance against Geylang International. Despite his relative youth, Arshad has already entrenched himself among the senior squad, and has even represented Singapore in the AFC Under-23 Championship qualifiers.
While he may not boast the experience of some of his other Sailors team-mates, Arshad is definitely still capable of contributing on the pitch with his unpredictability and bravery.

10

Song Uiyong

MIDFIELDERS

Nationality: South Korean
DOB/Age: 8 November 1993 (27)
Previous Clubs: Home United (2012-2019)

Known for his high work rate and superb technical abilities, Song has come a long way since his arrival in Singapore eight years ago. Having overcome the initial language barrier, the South Korean has since become one of the most accomplished midfielders in the SPL. His knack for scoring was also evident in 2018, as he plundered 20 goals to help Home United finish as ASEAN Zonal champions in the AFC Cup. An integral part of the Sailors, Song’s performances on the pitch will be key to helping the club achieve further success.

11

Hafiz Nor

MIDFIELDERS

Nationality: Singaporean
DOB/Age: 22 August 1988 (32)

Well-known as a speed merchant, Hafiz is capable of outpacing almost any defender in the league, and has forged himself a reputation as a dangerous and tricky winger. Despite making his professional debut at the belated age of 21, Hafiz has already become a fixture in the Singapore national team. Hafiz enjoyed his best season to date in 2019, where he scored nine goals in all competitions at club level for Home United. Hafiz’s devastating pace on the flanks makes him a perfect fit for the high-tempo, attacking style football that the Sailors aspire to.
